THINGS LOOKING ROSIER AT RANGERS
27/01/2010
Stafford Rangers assistant-manager Darren Read has rated the mood at Marston Road as the best since he has been with the Blue Square North club after three wins in a row for the team.

Last Saturday’s 1-0 win over Harrogate Town made it a trilogy of wins for the first time since Read and manager Chris Brindley took charge in December 2008, and lifted the team some twelve points clear of the relegation places and into the top ten.

Life seems rosy at Rangers, a rarity in recent times, and the assistant boss is enjoying the moment.

Read said: “It may have been the last time we were promoted when we won three in a row! We have had three results, but never three wins back-to-back like now. It has made all the difference, the lads are looking really good at the minute.

“Everybody has dug in and maybe we are getting the breaks now that we weren’t at the start of the season.”

Rangers handed a debut to returning fan favourite Craig McAughtrie (pictured) and midfielder Michael Bryne, brought in on loan from Blue Square North rivals Eastwood Town and Carlisle United respectively.

Read was impressed with the impact of the duo. He said: “Craig was magnificent at the back and brought that bit of know-how that we have lacked in that area, especially in the last 10 minutes when we came under a bit of pressure. Him winning headers and tackles kept the team shape.

“Michael did very well in the end, the pace was a bit of a culture shock for him at first but he grew into it as the game wore on. He came into his own and took charge.”
