COLLIER IN CONFIDENT MOOD
30/01/2010
Swindon Supermarine manager Mark Collier is seeking solace in the fixture list as he bids to ensure his club retain their Zamaretto League Premier Division status.

Marine are currently sixth from bottom in the table and the drop remains a major possibility for the South Marston outfit, with the majority of the teams around the lower end tightly bunched.

But Collier (pictured) was quick to point out that his side still have to take on many of their rivals, ensuring a number of opportunities to steal a march on their fellow relegation candidates.

“We’ve got to play Clevedon twice, Didcot twice, Rugby, Bedford and Tiverton,” said Collier “There’s so much football to be played yet, and if you put two wins together back to back then suddenly you’re not in that mini-division any more.

“We don’t want to be in a dogfight with 10 games to go and we need to start getting points on the board as quickly as possible.”

In the short-term Supermarine face mid-table Hednesford Town at Hunts Copse on Saturday - their first home game since December 9th.

Collier has injury doubts in the form of Justyn McKay (calf) and Ash Edenborough (shin), as his team prepares to meet the side they drew 0-0 with back at the beginning of September.

Hednesford have undergone major upheaval since the sides’ last encounter, with former boss Bernard McNedally named as the new boss, taking over from Simon Line, who had earlier quit.

“They are on their third manager of the season so they have had quite a bit of unrest,” said Collier.

“But they are certainly a force to be reckoned with. They are a big non-League club and I expect they will be looking to get into a play-off place.”

Marine have secured a new signing with the capture of Calne Town’s right-sided defender and midfielder Jordan Roberts.

The youngster now holds dual registration with Marine and the Toolstation Western League side and is expected to be used as a squad player by Collier.
