SHORT COMMITS TO BLUES 30/01/2010
Tough-tackling Russell Short has backed Zamaretto League Division One Midlands Bury Town for promotion after committing his future to the club this week.
The Blues right-back put pen-to-paper on a new eighteen-month contract - a deal that will keep Short at Ram Meadow until the end of next season.
"I was delighted to sign because Bury Town's ambition matches my ambition," said Short. "We are second in the table and of course we are hoping to win the league and gain automatic promotion this year.
"I believe we have a good chance of doing so, especially if we all play to our capabilities. There is a good atmosphere and belief around the club which are both important to me."
The 20-year-old, who lives in St Ives, Cambridgeshire, played a pivotal role in Town's late surge last term - a run in which the Blues eventually fell just one point shy of a coveted play-off spot.
After sustaining a broken leg at the start of September this campaign, former Ipswich Town youngster Short returned to action in November - slotting back into defence with apparent ease. Since his return, the Blues have lost just once in nine outings and have climbed from mid-table mediocrity to second spot in the table - three points adrift of league-leaders Hitchin Town.
