AIRBUS SIGN FORMER WOLVES FAVOURITE
02/02/2010
Former Wolves defender Jamie Smith has registered as player with Airbus UK Broughton after spending some time with the Principality Welsh Premier club in a coaching capacity last season.

A former England under-21 international, Smith joined Wolves as a youth trainee and made his first-team debut in 1994.

He made 104 appearances for the club before leaving in October 1997 as part of the deal that saw Dougie Freedman and Kevin Muscat move to Molyneux from then Premier League Crystal Palace.

He remained at Selhurst Park for seven seasons adding 175 appearances, joining Bristol City on a free transfer.

After ending the following season on loan at Brentford, Smith was signed by his former Brentford manager Martin Allen at the MK Dons.

The 35-year-old came out of retirement to play for Halesown Town last season whilst working towards his coaching badges with the Wingmakers.

"He’s now decided to try out the Welsh Premier which is great news for us,” said Airbus chief Craig Harrison.

"Jamie will bring that extra bit of quality we need; it's great to see someone of this class in the league."
