CHANDLER UPBEAT - DESPITE RECENT FORM
05/02/2010
Ian Chandler, manager of Skilltrainingltd Northern League Division One club and FA Vase holders Whitley Bay, confirmed to nonleaguedaily that, after a not so perfect week in footballing terms at least, his outfit were very much looking forward to the Fifth Round Vase tie at Combined Counties League Chertsey Town at the weekend.

Chandler said: “Some people have mentioned that we have had a bad couple of weeks. I have to remind them that it is actually just seven days, and two of those three games we should have won comfortably (Billingham Town 1-1, Dunston UTS 2-3 and Shildon 1-3) had it not been for poor finishing.

“We had many chances to put the games against Billingham and Dunston to bed, but for once we have been missing opportunities, which is not like us.

“We will go to Chertsey full of confidence however. We are the holders and regardless of our recent form, we will be fighting tooth and nail to retain the trophy and give our marvellous supporters something to cheer come the end of the season.”

The Bay boss, a winner as both a player and last season as manager with the Hillheads club, finalised by saying: “We do expect our opponents to up their game and we will have to be at our best if we want to progress beyond this last sixteen stage.

“However, I am hopeful we may have a new face in the squad come Saturday, but things are progressing slowly to this end so we have to wait and see.”
