THOMPSON MOVES TO BRIG 06/02/2010
Bamber Bridge manager Tony Greenwood has moved quickly to capture the services of former Grimsby Town and Barrow striker Chris Thompson after he was released from his contract withUniBond League Division One North rivals Leigh Genesis.
Thompson is a welcomed addition to the first-team squad and will be in contention for a place in Saturday`s squad to face Colwyn Bay at QED Stadium, Irongate.
Thompson joined Liverpool as a youngster but was released in 2001. He signed for Grimsby at the start of the 2001/02 campaign, making his debut as a substitute at home to Norwich City in October 2001, and in all he made fourteen appearances for Grimsby, scoring one goal.
In 2003 he moved to Northwich Victoria where he scored three goals in twenty-seven appearances. He spent time on loan at both Droylsden and Leek Town whist with Vics before moving on to Chorley in 2005/06 and the following season moved to Scarborough, where he scored sixteen goals in the 2006/07 season.
Later in 2007 he moved to Barrow, then in the Conference North, where he was a member of the squad that won promotion through the end-of-season play-offs to the Conference Premier, scoring sixteen goals.
In September 2008 he signed a one-month loan deal with Blue Square North outfit Fleetwood Town, but left Barrow joining Leigh in January 2009.
