EXPERIENCED DUO CHECK IN AT BISHOP AUCKLAND
02/07/2003
UniBond League First Division club Bishop Auckland have boosted their squad with the signing of two experienced north-east non-League campaigners.

Striker Ian Chandler has joined from Albany Northern League side from Whitley Bay, while midfielder Nicky Scaife has been snapped up from another ANL outfit, Bedlington Terriers.

Chandler (pictured), now 35, rejoined Bay at the start of the 2001/02 season from Blyth Spartans and the former England Schoolboy international played a big part in the club's FA Vase success.

He left Bay in 1995 after six years in which he made 260 appearances scoring 120 goals making him third in Whitley's all time scoring charts.

Chandler, who is equally at home in the centre of defence or as sweeper, played League football for both Barnsley and Aldershot and has also had spells with Durham City and South Shields.

Twenty-eight-year-old Scaife rejoins Bishops for a second time, having previously been with the club after joining from Norwegian side Porsanger.

He has experience of both the UniBond and Northerl Leagues, having also taken in spells at Gateshead, Halifax Town, Dunston Federation Brewery and Guisborough Town.
