HAYES LOSE ABBEY TO IPSWICH
19/12/2003
Ryman League Premier Division club Hayes have lost the services of recent signing, Nathan Abbey, who instead of facinh Hornchurch on Saturday, will be on the bench on Sunday for the big Nationwide League First Division derby clash with Norwich City at Portman Road after solving Ipswich Town manager Joe Royle's goalkeeping crisis, backing up for regular number one Kelvin Davis.

Abbey had only joined the Missioners a couple of weeks ago on a match-to-match basis after being released by Third Division Macclesfield Town.

He has been signed by Ipswich because a finger injury has ruled out regular reserve Lewis Price for about two months.

"Nathan will spend a month with us while Lewis Price recovers from injury," said Royle.

"He has trained with us and looks to be just what we need at the moment. He has worked with Kelvin at Luton and is also well known to Malcolm Webster, our goalkeeping coach."

Abbey (pictured) became a free agent in the summer after leaving Northampton Town, since when he has had short stays at Stevenage, back at Luton, St Albans City and Macclesfield and, ironically, his brother Zema, the former Hitchin Town striker, plays for Norwich!
