THREE IN AT CRAWLEY 24/12/2003
Dr Martens League Premier Division club Crawley Town have taken two strikers on-loan from Nationwide League Second Division strugglers Wycombe Wanderers.
Crawley boss Francis Vines has a whole host of injury worries with Maurice Harkin (ankle), Jay Richardson (concussion), Nigel Brake (knee) and Joff Vansittart (leg) currently in the treatment room, and Vines is also without Robert Smith for Saturday’s Havant & Waterlooville trip as he serves the second game of a two-match suspension.
Jonny Dixon and Gavin Holligan have both, therefore, joined on a month's loan which will last until January 26th.
Holligan (pictured) will be well-known to non-League fans as he was with Kingstonian, then in the Nationwide Conference, before being signed by West Ham for £100,000 in November 1998.
He then signed for Wycombe just prior to the start of the 2001/02 season, having been released by the Hammers after managing just one first-team appearance during his time at Upton Park.
He was given a one-year contract initially with a view to improving it if he performed well and, despite making just one League start (9 as sub) last season, he earned another year's contract with the Chairboys.
Spanish-born 19-year-old Jonny Dixon was spotted by Wycombe playing in the Slough & District School trials. Signed as a trainee, injury held him back but he still managed to gain a place in the reserves and joined the first-team on a pre-season Scottish tour in July 2002 and was eventually given his League debut the following month when he came on for the final few minutes of the home game with Northampton Town and he has since made a further 26 appearances and in February was rewarded with a professional contract until May 2005
Vines, meanwhile, has also boosted the squad with the signing of Rizan Rehman.
The 21-year-old midfielder, who made his debut as substitute in Saturday's win over bottom-markers Bath City, was a Brentford trainee before being released at the end of last season since when he has played for Ryman League Division One South side Molesey this season.
