CHANDLER HOPES SUPPORTERS WILL GET BEHIND THE TEAM.
29/01/2004
As a player Ian Chandler's name will be forever enshrined in the folklore of Albany Northern League Whitley Bay football club after scoring the winning goal in the coast club's 1-0 win over Tiptree United in the 2002 FA Vase Final at Villa Park.

The new Bay manager fervently hope's that the same supporters who cheered him on from the terraces that day will give the same level of backing and support to himself and his players as they look forward to the challenge of turning round the fortunes of a club with a proud past, but looking for direction as regards its immediate future.

Chandler (pictured) spoke to www.nonleaguedaily.com to say: " I cannot wait to get started, and Saturday cannot come quick enough." This was a direct reference to awaiting the visit of FA Cup battlers Shildon for his first home game in charge at Hillheads.

Whitley Bay will be strengthened for Saturday’s match by the inclusion of both Leon Ryan and Neil Shotton, sidelined last week through work commitments and injury respectively.

In addition the new Bay boss confirmed, that he was hoping to bolster his squad by signing midfield player Nicky Evans from Prudhoe Town in time for the Shildon game, and strongly hinted that more signings were imminent as they set out on the long road to regain past glory, after putting behind them the well chronicled departure of previous manager John Charlton, during which time to their credit they retained a dignified silence.
