POWER OFF
01/04/2004
Graeme Power has been released by Weymouth and the defender is set to complete a deadline day move to Dr Martens League Premier Division rivals Bath City.

The 26-year-old former Exeter City man had just four weeks of his current Wessex Stadium deal to run and his exit spells the end of a disappointing three-month stint with the Terras.

Player-manager Steve Claridge signed Power (pictured) in January after being released by league rivals Tiverton Town.

The ex-Bristol Rovers player is now set to move to Twerton Park ahead of the transfer deadline.

Chairman Ian Ridley said: "Graeme's been released by the club and we thank him for his service.

"The decision was taken at this time because Simon Browne is nearing full fitness and we've also recently taken Gary Sawyer from Plymouth so we feel fairly well served with left-footed defenders.

"Graeme suffered a knee injury at the weekend and needs a couple of weeks treatment to get himself right.

"Obviously he would have had that with us but will now be treated by Bath who he has joined. It is a shame things haven't worked out with Graeme but we wish him all the best."

Former Exeter City defender Chris Curran failed to make an expected debut for Weymouth in their 2-1 Two Counties win at Wimborne Town on Tuesday night.

Ridley explained: "Chris has not kicked a ball in anger for the best part of the year but initially we pencilled this game in to have a look at him.

"But Steve (Claridge) had a chat with Chris and we decided that as there's just a few weeks left of this season Chris might be better served forgetting about the rest of the season and start afresh with us in July.
