SCARBOROUGH RELEASE SEVEN
29/04/2004
Midfielder Wayne Gill is among those to go as Russell Slade, manager of Nationwide Conference club Scarborough, wields the end-of-season axe.

Gill (pictured), the former Blackburn Rovers player who joined in the summer of 2003 from Oldham, made 31 appearances but did not do enough to earn a new deal.

Whitby-born teenage striker Tommy Raw, who moved through to the first-team from the youth set-up, has also been told he can go.

Also leaving are defenders Kiki Ketchanke, Iain Davidson, James Sherlock, Michael Price and Andy Brownrigg plus former Doncaster Rovers striker Tristram Whitman.

French midfielder Jacques Williams was the first to leave the club last week after failing to live up to expectations during his stay.

Slade has given full-back Ashley Lyth the chance to save himself from the chop by inviting him back for pre-season training in July.

The first player to sign a new contract is midfielder Scott Kerr, while Slade is expecting to tie up a number of other deals when the players come for talks at the McCain Stadium on Friday.

Slade said: "Talks are on-going with all the players. I am hoping to get a lot of things sorted on Friday, but it may take a little longer.

"Scott Kerr is staying at the club which is excellent news for us because he is the players' player of the year and has been one of our most consistent performers all season.

"The releasing of these players means we can make a little space for next season. I do have one or two targets lined up but I wanted to get things done with the current players first."
