BAKER QUITS BLYTH.......
23/09/2004
Paul Baker has informed UniBond League Premier Division club Blyth Spartans’ executive committee that he was resigning from his job as manager of the club.

Baker felt that he had taken the club as far as possible with the squad that he had put together.

As a short-term measure, player/assistant-manager Graham Fenton, the former Aston Villa and Blackburn midfielder, will take over day-to-day running of the team, assisted by experienced defender Paddy Atkinson.

Baker (pictured) was appointed manager in November 2002 following the departure of John Charlton.

He gained over 17 years experience playing in the Football League and began his career with Southampton. After that he played for Carlisle United, Hartlepool United, Motherwell, Gillingham, York City, Torquay United and Scunthorpe United and appeared for a number of local non-League clubs including Blyth Spartans. Baker is a qualified UEFA coach and works for Newcastle United at their football Academy.

The club will be interviewing for a new manager over the next few days and invite applications from suitably qualified interested parties.

The executive committee have put on record their thanks to Baker for his work while with the club, both on and off-the-field, and have wished him well in his future career in football.
