VINEY TAKES OVER AT TORRIE 29/10/2004
Keith Viney has been appointed as Screwfix Direct Western League club Torrington's new manager.
Viney, a former Exeter City professional, was the unanimous choice of both chairman and committee after they sifted through several applications for the job vacated by Tony Bowker.
He will take on a caretaker's role for the moment, with a view to making the arrangement permanent in the future.
Viney played 166 times for Portsmouth before moving to Exeter, where he made a further 280 appearances. He then played twice for Bristol Rovers before joining Torrington under John Hore, and his no-nonsense, tough-tackling style made him a firm favourite with the fans.
He still pulls on his boots, and will be hoping to pass on some of his passion and commitment to the current crop of players, to re-ignite the fortunes of a side struggling in the bottom half of the Premier division.
Although Viney may have to bring in a few of his own signings to start with, he is looking to employ mainly locally based players in his side, with a view to building up a lively team spirit, with everyone at the club pulling in the same direction.
