PAINFUL START FOR LITTLE! 29/10/2004
‘Royle Family’ star Ralf Little had a painful home debut for Ryman League Division Two club Edgware Town on Saturday in the FA Vase and was rushed to hospital with an injured groin!
The actor, who also features in BBC’s ‘Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps’, required four stitches for the eye-watering injury after a player for opponents Waltham Abbey went studs-up into a tackle, hitting him where it hurts.
He had come on as a substitute late in the second half of the First Round fixture after team-mate Glen Parry was sent-off.
"It wasn't the best of starts for Ralf," said Edgware chairman Anthony Rosier. "He'd only been on the pitch for 5 minutes when the guy trying to tackle him slipped and went in studs-up. He had to have himself sewn up in hospital.
We were very pleased with the way he played though and I'm sure he'll do very well for us."
Little (pictured), managed to carry on playing for the remainder of the game and only realised the full extent of his injury at the final whistle. He was taken by ambulance to hospital to receive the stitches and later discharged.
"He had a black eye too," said Wares press officer Paul Gregory. "He was a bit sore to say the least. He didn't even know he was injured until the end."
Little is a keen footballer who has had a documentary filmed about him trying to win a professional contract with his home team, Bury, and was also one of the celebrities who featured in Sky One's ‘The Match’ which pitted a team of stars against the game's greats.
He joined the Wares after appearing for an Arsenal ex-professional and celebrity XI at the White Lion Ground last year.
There was one positive note for Little on the afternoon though Edgware won the game 2-0.
Strikes from Danny Clark and Rakatahr Hudson mean they will now progress to the Second Round of the FA Vase on November 20th.
