GANET MAKES BERKO SWITCH
02/05/2005
At Southern League Division One East club Berkhamsted Town’s presentation evening it was announced that local businessman Guillermo Ganet is to be the new chairman.

Ganet (pictured) leaves Minerva Spartan South Midlands Premier Division side Welwyn Garden City to take over the post vacated by Danny Jennings two months ago.

He lives locally and is a former reserve team player at the club, who made one first-team appearance back in 1994 before leaving to play for Tring Town.

For the first season in the Southern League, midfield general Leon Hibbert took the players' player of the year award, teenage goalscoring sensation Michael Chennells the manager's player of the year and defender Andy Hughes won the most improved player trophy.

The supporters awarded the Joe Harries Trophy for their player of the year to the versatile and loyal Andy Mullins.

Former Watford, AC Milan and England star Luther Blissett is sending a celebrity eleven to raise much-needed club funds by playing a Berkhamsted Town side at Broadwater on Saturday, May 7th (ko 3pm).

His son Elliott plays for the club's under-18 side. There is a lot more to the afternoon than the main football match, with dancing girls as cheerleaders, the opportunity for the public to be photographed with the stars, the chance to win a new Citreon car kindly supplied by Roy Chapman Limited, a mini-soccer game, the GoGaming bus packed with amusements for children, a marquee, tom bola and raffle and refreshments are all organised.

Berko hope to pull in around a thousand people for the event, which is the biggest at Broadwater since the FA Vase semi final in 2001. Gates open at 1.30 and people should come early to make the most of the afternoon.

There are also celebrities galore in Blissett's squad, including ex-England cricketer Alec Stewart, MC Harvey of So Solid Crew, Simon and Ant from Blue, Andy Scott Lee (Pop Idol 2, Tyson from the Sky Sports Dream Team and TV presenters Mike McClean, Tim Lovejoy, Dane Bowers and Ben Shepard (GMTV), Ralf Little (of Royle Family fame) and Phillip Olivier (Brookside).

Blissett is included in his own squad along with a host of former Watford teammates
like John Barnes, Martin Patching, Steve Terry and Neil Price.

Other ex-professional footballers in the squad are Ricky Hill of Luton, Paul Davis of Arsenal, Tommy Craig (ex Newcastle), Neil Ruddock (ex Liverpool) and Cyrille Regis of West Bromwich Albion fame.

Admission will be £5 for adults and £3 for children and senior citizens. A family ticket will save £4, being £12 for two adults and two children.
