04/05/2005
The Trawlerboys triumphed at the home of the Tractorboys as Lowestoft Town beat Bury Town in a thriller in front of a crowd of 582 at Ipswich Town’s Portman Road to lift the Suffolk Premier Cup on Tuesday night.

Stewart Roach (pictured) put Lowestoft two-up, his second from the penalty spot, before Bury replied just before the break.

Goals from Jamie Godbold and Lee Durrant made it 4-1, and although Bury pulled two back, the Trawlerboys held out.

AFC Wimbledon added the Surrey Senior Cup to the Ryman League Division One championship after a tremendous tussle against the side who finished runner-up, Walton & Hersham.

The Dons tooks a 14th minute lead when New Zealander Shane Smeltz fired an unstoppable volley past Nick Gindre from the edge of the box.

However, the Swans enjoyed the lions’ share of the play after that and were a touch unlucky not to equalise, especially when Danny Naisbitt saved Paul Harkness’ shot.

They did get back on level terms 9 minutes before the break when Chris Gelll wa adjudged to have brought down Mark Nwokeji and Neil Lampton made it 1-1 from the penalty spot.

The second half was ene-to-end stuff and the quality of football was a great tribute to the division.

The Dons almost won it in stoppage time but Rob Ursell’s shot was kicked off the line by a desperate Walton defence.

Nine minutes into extra-time the Dons took the lead. Richard Butler’s initial shot was superbly saves by Gindre but Ursell won the ball back and returned it to Butler, who slammed the ball home to round off a wonderful ‘double-winning’ season for the Dons.

Sheffield triumphed over Harrogate Railway in the Northern Counties East League Cup final at Ossett Albion’s Dimple Wells on Tuesday night.

First half goals from Tom Jones on 26 minutes and Chris White 6 minutes later eventually proved enough for Club, although James Featherstone did manage to reduce the deficit on 52 minutes.
