TURNBULL`S TARGETS 27/06/2005
Lee Turnbull, manager of Nationwide North club Barrow, has revealed names of four transfer targets as he bids to boost his squad’s firepower.
Ex-Halifax Town man Alex Meechan (pictured), former Hull City striker Clayton Donaldson, Northwich Victoria’s Jonny Allen and one-time Bradford City forward Danny Ekoku have been spoken to.
But nothing has come of Turnbull’s tentative approaches as yet, although Barrow’s chief isn’t worried by the lack of movement in the transfer market.
However, Donaldson has since signed for Conference National side York City.
Finding another forward and a midfielder remains Turnbull’s priority and he admits he’s been working non-stop in an effort to bring new faces to Holker Street.
He said: “I’ve spoken to about seven or eight players in the last two or three weeks, in various positions and of various ability levels.
“But everyone is sitting tight at the moment and keeping their options open, so you’ve got to stay patient.
“But I would imagine when pre-season comes around the phone will be red hot because at the moment you’ve got players thinking x, y and z are going to ring but things don’t always materialise how they want them to.
“But I’ve made offers to three or four players and now we’ll just have to wait and see.”
