BROOKS CHECKS IN AT SLOUGH 24/08/2005
Ryman League Premier Division club Slough Town have confirmed the loan signing of Jamie Brooks from Oxford United.
Brooks is a talented 21-year-old striker who has had to cope with Gullain Barre Syndrome, the same syndrome which affected former Liverpool star Markus Babbel.
Brooks (pictured) was struck down with the syndrome just after the end of his first season with Oxford, where he collected four player of the year awards.
After taking over a year to recover, Brooks spent some time on loan at Maidenhead United and then at Conference National side Tamworth where he scored on his only appearance for the club, following a goal in three matches during his loan spell with Maidenhead.
Brooks fought back into contention for the Oxford United first-team last season and made six League starts, with a further six substitute appearances, scoring two goals in the process.
With several players going out of the club this summer Rebels manager Eddie Denton signed several new players ahead of the new season.
Andy Ballard was signed from Oxford City. Ballard is a tough tacking defender or midfielder and hugely impressed during the pre-season campaign, but will unfortunately be suspended for the first four games of the season.
Mark West re-joined as player/assistant-manager. West is currently the Rebels seventh all-time goalscorer. The popular striker made 359 appearances for the club before moving to Farnborough Town in the same season the Rebels were demoted from the Conference National.
One player that will be no stranger to West will be Mark Avery, who has also joined from troubled Thame United.
The tall defender was players player of the season in the 2004/05 season for the Southern League side, and looks set to form a solid partnership with Steve Daly at the heart of the Rebels defence.
In midfield former Oxford United, Aldershot Town, Forest Green Rovers and Burton Albion midfielder Michael Alexis joined, as did Tee Daly after impressing Denton during the pre-season campaign. The left-winger played in the same youth side as current Rebel Glen Harris in local football.
Pacey Josh White completed the new faces at Slough, having joined the Rebels via Aldershot Town, where he made several appearances during pre-season.
Slough also captured of Leon Woodruffe from last season's Ryman League champions Yeading on a month’s loan.
Woodruffe is a versatile left-winger who has also played for Wembley, Harrow Borough and Hendon.
