SUDBURY SIGN INTERNATIONAL KEEPER 02/01/2006
Gary Harvey, manager of Ridgeons League Premier Division club AFC Sudbury, has made a new capture in bringing Thailand international goalkeeper Jamie Waite to the club.
Waite joins from Nationwide Conference National side Cambridge United and will make his debut at Mildenhall Town on Monday, replacing the injured Paul Rutherford.
The keeper, who is 19, was born in Thailand and whose mother is Thai, has been in their international set-up since he was fifteen.
Waite (pictured), who played for Kettering Town and Barrow ijn Nationwide North last season after being released by Rotherham, was handed the skippers armband when the Thai under-23 side played friendlies against a Manchester City XI and Macclesfield Town earlier in the season
He is hopeful of making it in the Thailand under-23 side that are trying to qualify for the 2008 Bejing Olympic Games. He is the only Thai player in England and there are only two others outside of Asia, he gets sponsorship from the Thailand FA to develop his career.
Harvey said of Waite: "He's agreed to help us out while Paul is injured. He's not ‘on loan’ so would be available for the forthcoming FA Vase game should we need him. Jamie played against us in a friendly earlier this season so knows what we can do.
"It will be something of a reunion as he used to play with our captain Brett Girling while they were at Braintree Town a few seasons ago."
