SPANNER IN THE WORKS? 23/04/2006
Apparently there is an irregularity with Solomon Taiwo’s registration this season which may well affect the five clubs he has played for.
The problem arises as after he finished last season with Ryman League Division One side Tooting & Mitcham United he spent the summer playing in the United States and therefore needed international clearance before he could play in England again.
Unfortunately, he failed to tell any of the clubs about this and therefore Maidenhead United, Weymouth, Chesham United, Dagenham & Redbridge and Windsor & Eton are all at risk of losing any points gained when Taiwo was playing for them, plus a fine.
In the cases of Maidenhead, Chesham and Windsor, all three have already been relegated, so a points deductions would have little affect.
However, Weymouth are in danger of losing the Nationwide South title that they won on Saturday if they are deducted points the four points gained with Taiwo (pictured) in the side.
Taiwo played for the Terras, ironically in the goalless draw at Maidenhead United on October 1st, and came on as a substitute in the 3-0 win at Newport County a couple of weeks earlier as well as an FA Cup tie against Weston-super-Mare.
A decision from Football Conference officials is eagerly awaited.
