BRACE JOINS CARMARTHEN
16/11/2006
Principality Welsh Premier club Carmarthen Town have completed the transfer of former Haverfordwest County player-manager Deryn Brace.

The defender, 31, spent five seasons at the New Bridge Meadow but was surprisingly replaced last month by Derek Brazil, citing extra work commitments as the reason for his and the club's amicable decision.

Brace (pictured) stated that he would continue to play for the Bluebirds but immediately took a break from the game. However, it became more and more evident that he would not be returning to the club and then a few weeks later, County issued a statement confirming that fact. He played for the Bluebirds 130 times, scoring just the one goal.

Brace has played for the Richmond Park side before, making ten full appearances in 2000/01 season after leaving Wrexham and also played for Llanelli twice in the same year. He then went back home to his local Welsh Premier side and the man from Tenby became an instant hit. He became the club's player-manager in June 2002, replacing John Lewis and is the most successful manager in the club's history. Brace took his side to a highest ever third position in 2003/04 and they subsequently played in the UEFA Cup.

He is unlikely to have a coaching role in the set-up as manager Mark Jones is well assisted by John Karamousis and Mark Azielwood, but his experience as a player will be invaluable at the back.

Nobody has made either full back slot their own for Carmarthen this season since the departure of last term regulars Martyn Giles and Luke Hardy, who have left for Hereford United and Ireland respectively.

New signings Terry Evans, Tom Ramasut, Lee Denner and Stewart Edwards as well as Hayden Fleming have all been tried but Jones may have found his solution at right back in Brace.

Meanwhile, the rumour mill is turning thick and fast at the moment and it is likely that Adie Harris and Tony Bird, who ironically, were two of Brace's final signings, look set to leave with Tiverton Town a likely destination for Harris.
