ABBEY COUP FOR ROVERS 30/01/2007
Amongst nine players registered last week, British Gas Business Southern League Division One Midlands club Barton Rovers signed forward Zema Abbey.
Luton-born Abbey (pictured), now 29, began his career with Arlesey Town, Baldock Town and Hitchin Town.
The Canaries sold him in February 2000 to Cambridge United for whom he scored five goals in sixteen full and six substitute appearances.
A transfer to Norwich City ten months later saw Abbey reap seven goals in thirty full and twenty-nine substitute appearances. While at Carrow Road he made five appearances for Boston United, scoring one goal, before a move to Wycombe Wanderers.
He made five appearances for the Chairboys and then six for Bradford City before concluding his Football League career at Torquay United for whom he scored once in six appearances.
He then had a spell in the Nationwide Conference National with Forest Green Rovers before joining Nationwide North outfit Kettering Town last summer.
Also registering with Rovers was another striker with a good goalscoring pedigree at non-League level, former Dunstable Town, Hemel Hempstead Town and Hitchin Town`s Grant Carney, while the likes of Junior George, formerly with Stotfold and Buckingham Town, and ex-St NeotsTown, Aylesbury United and Buckingham man Meshach Cole have also signed.
