WHITES NAB SEAGULLS` TOP SCORER
09/03/2007
Salisbury City have bolstered their attacking options by signing striker Marvin Brown from Nationwide South rivals Weston-super-Mare.

The 23-year-old former England Youth international completed his move to the current league leaders for an undisclosed sum, and will go straight into the squad for Saturday's visit of Eastbourne Borough.

Brown is Weston's leading scorer this term, netting fourteen goals in thirty-two games.

The striker has plenty of Football League experience, having started his career with Bristol City, where, at just 16 years old, he became their youngest ever player.

He has also played in the Football League for Torquay United, Cheltenham Town and Yeovil Town and has Conference National experience with both Forest Green Rovers and Tamworth.

Bristol-born Brown (pictured) joined Weston at the start of the 2005/06 season, finishing top scorer with seventeen goals.

City boss Nick Holmes said: "Marvin has a great pedigree and a superb goalscoring record with Weston. To score that many goals in a struggling side says a lot.
"We've been chasing him for a few weeks now but the wait was worth it."

Brown impressed his new boss in City's two games over the festive period with Weston. Both matches ended in draws.

"I thought in the second game in particular he caused us a few problems," added Holmes.

"His goalscoring record in a side that has struggled over the past two seasons is extremely good."

Brown will add a competitive edge upfront for the Whites, who are not short on strike power. Matty Tubbs, Paul Sales and Robbie Matthews have bagged more than forty goals between them this season.

"It's a very good extra member of the squad and with the boys we've brought in recently, Matt Robinson, Mike Fowler and Alan Neilson, it's got our squad up to the strength that's going to be needed through these last two torrid months of the season.

"Every club that's successful will have four or five top quality strikers and I felt we needed to get some cover as Tubbsy was missing for a few games.

Whites will be without their top scorer for five more games as he serves a six-match ban following his recent dismissal against Dorchester Town - his fourth red card of the season.
