HANLON HANDED SAINTS POST 16/05/2007
The Board of St Albans City, relegated from the Nationwide Conference National, have announced the appointment of Richie Hanlon as the new manager at Clarence Park.
Hanlon brings a wealth of experience as a player, which includes Southend, Peterborough, Rushden & Diamonds, and latterly at Cambridge United.
Following a cruciate ligament injury Hanlon`s playing career was curtailed while with Cambridge.
His pro-active and enthusiastic approach, his initiatives for moving the club forward, and his extensive list of contacts fit the Board's specification for the new appointment.
"It is these qualities combined with his strength of character which we believe will set the club on course for a quick return to Conference football," said club chairman John Gibson.
Board members believe that the 29-year-old will introduce vitality and energetic training programmes which will be of major benefit to players in next season's promotion race.
Hanlon (pictured) is well known and respected by many current City players and brings with him many progressive ideas about managing the senior club and integrating youth football at Clarence Park.
Gibson added: "I have been impressed by comments about his management potential from football colleagues, and believe he will prove to be the right person for our Club at this time."
