GURNEY BECOMES A HAWK 25/05/2007
Blue Square South club Havant & Waterlooville have announced their first summer signing in the form of former Bristol Rovers and Swindon Town defender Andy Gurney.
Gurney (pictured) will join the Hawks in an attacking midfield role, although he his equally adept as a right back.
Thirty-three-year-old Gurney started his career in 1992 as a trainee at Bristol Rovers, making over 100 first-team appearances through a five-year tenure before moving to Torquay and then on to Reading in a £100,000 move in 1999.
From Reading he signed for Swindon in 2001, playing over 140 games in three seasons, and returned to the side in 2005 after a two-year tenure at Swansea City.
Having made almost 500 career appearances, he retired from full-time League football in July 2006 while recovering from an ankle injury, and last season he started a non-League career at Clevedon Town, then joining Weston-super-Mare in February.
With the relegated (reprieved?) Seagulls he played ten of the side’s last twelve games, scoring three goals.
