SAINTS RETURN FOR BRABIN 04/06/2007
Gary Brabin has returned to Principality Welsh Premier club The New Saints as the new assistant for manager Ken McKenna, following the recent departure of head coach Andy Cale.
The ex-Football League midfielder returns to organise coaching, scouting and player development at the club where he made forty-seven appearances between 2002 and 2004.
A former England semi-professional international, Brabin (pictured) first joined TNS in July 2002 from then Conference outfit Chester City and played in the UEFA Cup ties against Amica Wronki and Manchester City.
But his career at Treflan ended in February 2004, when he suffered a bout of breathlessness at Connah's Quay Nomads and medical tests revealed a heart problem.
Despite being advised to quit the game, after a spell as assistant to Gary Finley at Witton Albion, he returned to action with Halifax Town, Southport and, latterly, Burscough, helping the Lancashire club to win the Unibond League title in April to secure automatic promotion to the Blue Square North.
After starting his career as an apprentice with Stockport County, Brabin played for Gateshead and Runcorn before a move back into the Football League with Doncaster Rovers.
He then moved to Bury and Blackpool for a £200,000 fee, later earning idol status at Hull City, where he helped to secure Football League status.
He completed his top flight career at Torquay United and appeared in more than 200 Football League games.
The 36-year-old will also be registered as a player at TNS.
