TRIPLE COUP FOR AMBITIOUS YELTZ 03/08/2007
Martin O`Connor, manager of British Gas Business Southern League Premier Division club Halesowen Town, has secured the signing of vastly-experienced forward Duane Darby.
Darby made his first pre-season appearance last Tuesday along with two more ex-professionals in Terry Fleming and Steve Cooke.
The 33-year-old had the remainder of his contract paid up by Coca-Cola League Two side Shrewsbury Town enabling to make a move back into non-League football which he did in February 2006, signing for Nuneaton Borough, who released him at the end of last season.
Darby has won promotion to the Football League twice during his career with both Rushden & Diamonds and Shrewsbury.
Darby (pictured) began his career as a trainee with Torquay United before Doncaster Rovers paid £35,000 for him in 1995.
In 1996, Hull City paid £25,000 for the striker and he scored twenty-eight goals in seventy-six matches.
Spells followed at Notts County and a loan period back at Hull City before he moved to Rushden and Diamonds and fired the goals that led them to promotion.
During his time at Nene Park, Darby scored forty-seven goals in ninety-nine starts before he switched to Gay Meadow on a free transfer in 2003.
Fleming, 34, is a fiercely competitive midfielder who has 424 League appearances under his belt.
He has had spells with Plymouth, Lincoln, Preston and Northampton before three years with Cambridge United.
He joined Kidderminster Harriers in the summer of 2005 but was released by new boss Mark Yates at the end of that season, spending the majority of last term with Moor Green (now Solihull Moors).
Walsall-born Cooke began his career as a trainee with Aston Villa. He made his first-team debut in August 2000 in Villa's 2-1 defeat at home to Celta Vigo in the UEFA Intertoto Cup semi final second-leg.
He moved to AFC Bournemouth on loan in March 2002, making his League debut for the Cherries.
On January 1, 2003 he finally made his Premiership debut for Villa, coming as a late substitute in a 2-0 home win over Bolton Wanderers asn went on to make two further appearances that season.
He rejoined Bournemouth on loan in January 2004 and also had a similar spell at Wycombe Wanderers the same year before being released by Villa at the end of the 2004/05 season, subsequently signing for Bournemouth on a permanent basis.
In January 2007 he joined Torquay United on loan until the end of the season, was released by Bournemouth at the end of the season.
