LAIRD SIGN ROONEY! 05/10/2007
UniBond League Division One South title-favourites Cammell Laird dipped their net in the transfer pool for the second time in a week and came out with another big catch in Thomas Rooney, cousin of the England star Wayne.
Hot on the heels of the arrival of Greg Stones from Blue Square Premier side Stafford Rangers, Rooney (pictured) has been suitably impressed by the ambition at Lairds to put pen to paper from Blue Square North outfit Leigh RMI.
Twenty-two-year old Rooney meets up again with Alex Hay in the Lairds forward line with whom he spent several seasons at Prenton Park in the Tranmere Rovers` youth set-up before moving to Macclesfield Town in 2005.
He then went on to play for Vauxhall Motors before joining Leigh earlier this year.
He joins Lairds as they enjoy a renaissance after disappointing cup results, currently sitting second in the league with strong ambitions of promotion this term.
