TANNERS APPOINT HAZEL 23/10/2007
Ian Hazel has been named as the new manager of Ryman League Division One South club Leatherhead.
The former Wimbledon player, who quit as boss of Blue Square South side Sutton United a fortnight ago, replaces Dave Harlow who resigned last week.
Secretary Gerald Darby said: "We were lucky that Ian was available at the time we had a vacancy.
"He ticks all the boxes. He is a qualified coach with a good background and experience of managing at our level.
"His ideas and ambitions impressed us."
Hazel's other managerial posts include spells in charge of Tooting & Mitcham United and Walton & Hersham.
He took over at Sutton towards the end of the 2005/06, replacing John Rains who spent ten years in the Gander Green Lane hot-seat.
When Hazel took over United seemed to be in freefall but he steadied the ship and ensured they stayed in Conference South.
He steered Sutton to a mid-table finish last season and was also credited with helping in the development of Brentford's Charlie Ide, who had a successful spell on loan with Sutton before breaking into the Bees' first-team.
But with star player Matt Gray leaving for Woking in the summer, United struggled from the start of this season and Hazel quit with the club bottom of Blue Square South.
