TAYLOR GOES ON SHOPPING SPREE
06/07/2008
UniBond League Premier Division club Boston United have completed a notable foray into the transfer market by signing attacking trio David Farrell, Ollie Ryan and Paul Watts.

Manager Tommy Taylor (pictured above) has increased his playing options considerably with the recruitment of the three talented attackers and the trio all put pen-to-paper at training on Saturday morning.

Taylor’s squad currently numbers seventeen players, ensuring that just one or two more additions are now needed to complete the manager’s selection jigsaw.

Farrell, 36, has returned to the Staffsmart Stadium for a second spell, following a season with Blue Square Premier outfit Burton Albion.

The former Aston Villa and Peterborough United winger played forty-three times for the Pilgrims during the 2006/07 campaign and made his final appearance as United lost their battle for Football League survival at Wrexham in May 2007.

The signing of Ryan (right), 22, has ended Taylor’s long pursuit of the former Lincoln City trainee. The Boston-born frontman is believed to have turned down at least two offers from Blue Square North sides to join his home-town club and his signing represents a terrific coup for the Pilgrims.

The third signing is fellow striker Watts, 30, who returns to the Staffsmart Stadium, having played his last game for the club during the 4-3 win over Dorchester Town back in May 2000.

Watts has rejoined the Pilgrims from Skegness Town, aiming to kick-start his career in senior non-League circles once again.

He scored twenty-three goals in four seasons with United between 1996 and 2000 and helped the club clinch the Southern League title.

Reflecting on a busy day of transfer activity, Taylor said: “I am extremely satisfied with the three signings that we have made.

“We have gradually built the team from the back and the addition of three quality attacking players has now given us more options further up the field.

“There will arguably be no better winger in the UniBond League than David Farrell and his experience will be invaluable, especially as Stewart Talbot is the only other player within the squad that is older than 30.

“Ollie Ryan needs no introduction and I have been tracking him virtually since the day I joined the club a year ago. I’m delighted to finally secure Ollie’s signature and I’m sure he will score the goals to fire us into contention for promotion.

“Last but not least, we have signed Paul Watts and hopefully he can re-establish himself at this level. I have watched Paul on a number of occasions for Skegness Town and he is a class above at that level. He has a tremendous work ethic and I’m sure he will be a success story too.”
