ROONEY BACK AT MOTORS 19/07/2008
Vauxhall Motors` manager Carl Macauley is slowly rebuilding his squad as his side prepare for life in Blue Square North following their relegation reprieve.
As Motors prepare for their first pre-season outing at home to Chester City on Saturday Macauley has secured the signatures of Rivacre Park favourite Thomas Rooney (pictured), who left for Cammell Laird last season, and former Altrincham striker Pat McFadden.
Macauley is also working towards retaining the services of centre back Craig Robinson, who was set to walk away from the Motormen following their relegation last term.
But a reprieve following the enforced relegation of Boston United for financial irregularities saw Motors replace them back in the division – a bittersweet move as the Motormen were left unable to plan for the forthcoming season until they learned of their fate.
Motors’ 2008/09 squad will feature former Tranmere Rovers midfielder Ged Brannan, who recently starred in Rovers triumph at the North West Masters tournament where they beat a Liverpool legends side in the final, and he will be joined by Jordan Holmes, Mark Maddox and Lee Owens, who made early commitments to Motors this summer.
Midfielders Tom Hannigan, Keith Smith and Jonathan Egerton have also signed up for the new campaign.
