PITMAN HANGS UP HIS BOOTS AND MOVES ON 02/09/2008
Jamie Pitman has left Blue Square Premier club Forest Green Rovers to take up the position of club physiotherapist at Coca-Cola League One side Hereford United.
Pitman (pictured) signed for Rovers from Hereford in 2006 as a player and was promoted to player/assistant-manager by manager Jim Harvey at the start of the following season following the departure of then assistant Paul Wanless.
Born in Trowbridge, Pitman started as a trainee with Swindon Town before moving on to Hereford.
This was followed by spells at Yeovil Town and Woking before he returned for a very successful period again with the Bulls, where he was part of the squad that saw them return to the Football League via the play-offs in 2006.
Pitman, 32, who lives in Hereford, has decided that with his playing days coming to an end this was an opportunity he could not afford to miss.
Manager Jim Harvey said: “We have made a very encouraging start and Jamie has been very much a part of the coaching and playing squad up to this week.
“We have had an extremely good working relationship and it therefore came as a great surprise when Jamie told me he was leaving after just six games into the season. Such short notice has made it very difficult to accommodate any replacement on the playing side ahead of the transfer deadline, which means I will have to look at the make up of the squad and any opportunities to replace him as a player, when the availability of bringing in a loan player resumes in 7 days.
“We have a number of qualified coaches who assist me with training and on matchdays so although there is no immediate need for a replacement I will be looking to bring in an assistant in the very near future.”
Chairman Trevor Horsley said: “Jamie has made a significant contribution to the club during the two years he has been at Forest Green Rovers. He has always been very professional, very approachable and very helpful. We are disappointed to be losing him but wish him well in his chosen future career.”
