MAGPIES RECEIVE A BOOST 26/09/2008
Blue Square South club Dorchester Town have received the perfect tonic ahead of Saturday\'s FA Cup Second Qualifying Round home tie against Newport County - the capture of Wes Fogden.
Terms have been agreed with the 20-year-old who is expected to sign a permanent deal at the county town club this weekend following his release from Brighton.
Fogden (pictured) joined Dorchester for his second loan spell with the club at the end of August, but returned to the Seagulls last Monday only to find out he was no longer in their future plans.
Magpies\' manager Shaun Brooks and chairman Eddie Mitchell have wasted no time in snapping up the talented midfielder who can also play at right-back and should be available for Saturday`s Jewson Avenue Stadium cup clash.
Brooks said: \"Wes was due to finish his loan with us this weekend and originally Brighton didn\'t want him cup-tied.
\"So he went back to Brighton last Monday and asked if he was going to be in the club\'s plans. Because he wasn\'t he has now become a free agent.
\"Wes spoke to a few clubs and did receive other offers but decided to come back to us, which is fantastic for the club.\"
Fogden has undoubtedly been Dorchester\'s best performer this season and his signing should galvanise a squad somewhat short of confidence following almost seven weeks without a win.
Brooks is fully aware of the magnitude of Saturday\'s tie.
He said: \"It\'s a massive game for us. From a financial aspect there\'s money at stake and it generates interest in the club but we also want to win to gain some momentum.
\"The players and I are under no illusions but it\'s one we\'re all looking forward to.\"
A month ago Brooks was lamenting his side\'s defensive frailties. Now though, the problem appears to lie at the other end of the field.
He added: \"We first had defensive problems a month ago at Newport, in the 4-4 draw, and it continued for three games. We then kept a clean sheet at Welling and since then, barring the Setanta Shield match with Newport, we have tightened up somewhat at the back.
\"The problem now is that we haven\'t been scoring enough goals, we\'ve only got one in our last three league games, so we\'ve got to get better offensively as well.
\"We\'ve got the capabilities within the squad to score goals and we have been working hard on it in training.\"
