STAGS SIGN AMEOBI
15/01/2009
The brother of Premiership star Shola Ameobi, Tomi Ameobi, has joined Blue Square Premier club Mansfield Town on loan.

Ameobi (pictured) has joined the Stags on a one-month loan deal, with an option to extend his stay at Field Mill, and is the sixth new face at the Mill as a permanent/loan signing.

The striker has come from Doncaster Rovers, whom he joined from Leeds United in the summer, and has made one first-team appearance for Rovers as a substitute.

The 20-year-old has previously been on loan at Scunthorpe and Grimsby and follows new strikers Rob Duffy and Louis Briscoe into Field Mill.

Stags manager David Holdsworth said: "His brother is very well known, a bit like mine really.

"He brings another element to the squad and a lot of qualities which I like.

"He is eager to impress and get his career started. He is at a successful club and is paying for the success that that team has had.

"Doncaster have a very good squad and have to bring in players that go to that level.

"Tomi is a player I have been studying for a while."

Holdsworth's changes at Field Mill so far include:

New signings: Keeper Alan Marriott, defender Scott Garner, midfielder Curtis Woodhouse, striker Rob Duffy, winger Louis Briscoe, Tomi Ameobi (loan).

Triallists: Dan Whatsize, John Kane, Martin McBride, Gianluca Havern, Paul Farman, Ashley Burbeary, Sean Webb.

Transfer-listed: Jason White, Gavin Hurren, Nathan Arnold.

Loan players to return: Paddy Gamble, Adnan Ahmed, Emile Sinclair.

Players out - Jason Lee (Kettering Town)
