THREE IN FOR CITY
02/02/2009
Blue Square Premier strugglers Salisbury City have today eased their defensive crisis by signing defenders Michael Brough and Chris Todd from league rivals Torquay United on a month's loan.

Whites` boss Nick Holmes says he is delighted to have secured the services of both players after Aldershot Town recalled loanee Dave Winfield at the weekend.

"We lost Dave Winfield back to Aldershot because of their problems, which was unfortunate as he had his best game yet for us on Saturday at Barrow. But that's the way it goes sometimes. Aldershot have suffered an injury and a suspension so they've taken him back."

Holmes believes the Torquay central defenders will do a great job for the Whites, who also saw Tim Bond depart to Sutton United last week. And with Djoumin Sangare likely to be out for at least another month, the City boss was short of options at the back.

"We lost Tim, and Jimmy Sangare is likely to be out for at least another four weeks. Jon Bass has been doing a valiant job there, but we had to do something to bring in central defenders.

"Todd is rightly rated as one of the best defenders in this league - if not the best defender. He's well, he's fit - it's just a case of him getting games to get match fit."

And both Gulls players are looking forward to getting some competitive games under their belts. Brough has made just two starts for the promotion hopefuls this term, while Todd, who was diagnosed with leukaemia in September, is well on his way back to full fitness.

Todd (pictured above) said: "I've been ready for a game for a while now, even with my illness I have been keeping myself very fit and hopefully one or two games will get me back to full match fitness."

Brough (right) has welcomed the loan deal, also telling Torquay's website: "This is brilliant news for me. I just want to play some football. Salisbury are in a tough position in the league so it will be full-on, which I think is a good thing for me and Toddy."

Twenty-seven-year-old Brough's playing career has seen him enjoy spells at Forest Green Rovers, Notts County, Stevenage Borough and Stafford Rangers, while Welsh-born Todd, who is also 27, was previously with his home-town club Swansea City, for whom he made more than forty Football League appearances before joining Exeter City.

He made more than 150 appearances for the Grecians - his final game saw him lead the side out at Wembley for their 2006/07 Conference play-off final.

He then signed for Torquay for a £7,500 fee and was an almost ever-present in the Gulls' first season in the Blue Square Premier, which resulted in a play-off semi final disappointment for Todd - Torquay losing to his former club Exeter in the two-legged tie.

Salisbury have also re-signed Charles Ademeno on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Southend United player scored one goal in his eight appearances for the Whites during his initial loan spell at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium, which began back in November.
