RYMAN CLUBS SWAP PLAYERS 26/08/2002
Just prior to Saturday's fixtures, Ryman League Premier Division rivals Canvey Island and Grays Athletic were involved in a player/exchange deal.
The deal saw Canvey's highly-rated midfielder Adam Miller moving to Bridge Road, with Grays' recent signing, the experienced Jeff Minton, switching to Park Lane after less than a month with the Essex outfit.
Miller (pictured), who joined Canvey in October 2000 after being released by Ipswich Town, really came to the fore last season and was an important member of manager Jeff King's side that won the FA Umbro Trophy and finished as runners-up in the Premier Division.
Twenty-eight-year-old Minton made over 250 League appearances with Spurs, Brighton, Port Vale, Rotherham and Leyton Orient, from whom he joined Grays at the beginning of August.
Grays manager Craig Edwards expressed himself well satisfied with the deal. "I've admired Adam for a long time and the opportunity presented itself earlier in the week, so with the support of football director, Mike Woodward, we went for it."
