SINGH FINALLY CLEARED TO PLAY
28/09/2009
UniBond League Premier Division club Guiseley have finally received international clearance to play former Leeds United winger Harpal Singh following a spell in Ireland.

Singh (pictured above) was born in Bradford and he started out with Leeds United where the manager at the time, George Graham, was once quoted saying 'Liverpool may have Michael Owen but we have Harpal Singh!'.

He made his professional debut when he went to play for Bury at Wrexham during a loan spell with the Shakers. He also played for Bristol City and Bradford City and twice more at Bury - all on loan - before he moved to Stockport County in 2005.

In 2006, he was released by then County manager Jim Gannon and signed for Irish side Sligo Rovers.

In January 2007 he moved to Bohemians but spent the majority of his time at Dalymount Park on the sidelines with injury.

After being a bit-part player in Bohs' double-winning season of 2008, he was released when his contract expired in December 2008 and he linked up with his former manager Sean Connor to join newly-promoted Dundalk and signed a six-month contract, returning to Yorkshire upon that expiring.

He has been training with Guiseley for some time, awaiting international clearance, which finally arrived at the end of last week.

Also new at Nethermoor is winger Lee Askham (right), who joins from Coca-Cola League Two side Chesterfield.

A former England under-17 winger, he was signed by the Spireites in December 2008 on a short-term deal.

He was originaally an academy and reserve player at Sheffield United before having a trial at Manchester United.

Quick and skilful, Askham is no stranger to the UniBond as he had a loan spell with Garforth Town last term.
