GAME ABANDONED AS FOREST SKIPPER SUFFERS HORROR INJURY 29/10/2009
The Essex Senior Cup game between Ryman League Division One North side Waltham Forest and Ryman Premier neighbours AFC Hornchurch, had to be abandoned after barely 10 minutes, when Stags` skipper Gbenga Sonuga suffered a broken fibula.
The injury was a pure accident with no other player involved, but it was obvious straight away that Sonuga (pictured) was in serious pain and could not be moved until the arrival of the ambulance, and it was decided between both set of players, management and the match referee, that the game should be called off due to a lengthy delay and with the added complication of thick fog decending on the area.
It is the third serious injury suffered by one of Forest's senior players this season.
In pre-season, midfielder Guy Lopez suffered a broken leg and will be out until Christmas at least and then a couple of weeks into the season another midfielder, Des Thomas, suffered severe muscle damage and is still some weeks away from a return to the team.
