COUP SIGNING FOR BILLERICAY
21/01/2010
Ryman League Premier Division club Billericay Town have strengthened their strike force with two new signings.

In something of a coup for the Blues, Simon Thomas (above), 25, has joined, initially on a temporary basis, having recently been released by Coca-Cola Championship side Crystal Palace.

He joined Palace for £40,000 from Boreham Wood in July 2008, but was unable to break into the first-team, making just one substitute appearance in a Championship game at Wolves in September 2008. He has since had loan spells at Grays Athletic, Rotherham, Ebbsfleet United and Darlington.

Billericay boss Brian Statham said: "I heard the news of Simon's release before it became official, and immediately made him aware of my interest. He and I have had many conversations about him joining Billericay and we finally concluded things."

Russell Malton (right), 19, has joined on a month`s loan from League One outfit Colchester United having recentlyfinished a two-month loan period at Ryman Division One North neighbours Heybridge Swifts, where he scored eight goals in nine appearances.

He is able to play through the middle or on either flank and is a hard working youngster that always put in a shift for his team whilst also offering an excellent goal threat.

Statham added: "Russell was mentioned to me some months back and when he went on loan to Heybridge, we had him watched. He settled in very quickly, and started scoring goals with regularity, so I expect him to bring that habit with him!"
