END OF AN ERA AS GLENDON LEAVES BORO
08/10/2010
Kevin Glendon has vowed to return to football management following his departure from Evo-Stik League First Division North club Radcliffe Borough.

The 49-year-old has quit Boro after twenty-one years, ending one of the longest tenures of any manager in the semi-professional game.

During his reign Boro have gained huge respect in non-League circles for their infrastructure and for developing talented young players.

Glendon stepped aside before director of football Gerry Luczka took full control of team affairs as caretaker-manager.

Boro’s major shareholder, Bernard Manning, posted a tribute to Glendon on the club’s website: “He was part of the life and soul of the club, which he has run almost single-handedly and I thank him for all the good times we have shared.”

Speaking after his departure, Glendon said that the burden of raising cash for the club, as well as running the squad, had become too much.

And he called on other influential supporters to step forward and help Manning run the club.

“All I really wanted to do was manage the team,” said Glendon. “If I can find somewhere I can do that Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, I’ve still got the desire.

“If someone said ‘here’s the wage bill and there you go’, I’d be happy.

“On match days, there were about seven or eight phone calls before I saw the players.

“It just got too much to be honest - I think that when you’ve been at a club for such a long time, you get taken for granted.

“But when that change does come, maybe some people will think it is a good thing.

“The club needs people to stand up and help Bernard.

“Running the club is a big responsibility and it needs people who are willing to give him as much support as possible.

“The last thing I would want to see is the football club having any problems and I have tried to give Bernard my full backing, but it is time now for others to step up to the plate.”
