NEW DEFENDER FOR DONS - CHAIRMAN SPEAKS OUT 25/11/2002
Seagrave Haulage Combined Counties League club AFC Wimbledon's Director of Football Terry Eames signed 28-year-old left-back Sean Daly from Ryman League Division One South leaders Carshalton Athletic in time for the big top-of-the-table clash with AFC Wallingford on Saturday.
Daly is a former England under-16 international who has also played for Sutton United, Croydon, Fulham, Wimbledon and Crystal Palace.
Eames (pictured) said: "Sean is a quality defender who has played at a very good level. He is a welcome addition to the squad and I believe he will add experience to the set up.
"He was due to open talks with Tooting & Mitcham United but I managed to get in there and secure him for us in time for him to travel with us to Wallingford."
Meanwhile, AFC Wimbledon were quick to react to accusations that their supporters were responsible for trouble in the clubhouse before Saturday's top-of-the-table clash at AFC Wallingford.
Chairman Kris Stewart said: "As you may have read, there was fighting in the bar at our away match at AFC Wallingford which led to the police being involved, and in arrests being made.
"Officials of both clubs, and the Thames Valley police, have all been very clear in stating that the situation arose due to the behaviour of a group unconnected to either club.
"AFC Wimbledon condemns any such violence at any football match. Wimbledon fans enjoy a reputation for good behaviour and we as a club are proud of this and will continue to make every effort to ensure this reputation endures.
"The police will decide whether or not to charge individuals, and AFC Wimbledon will support any investigation and will happily co-operate with the police in this regard.
"AFC Wimbledon have been praised, by various police forces and by clubs we have visited and who have visited us, for the arrangements we have made to ensure the safety and security of those attending matches in which we are involved. These arrangements are, of course, under continuous review by us, with help from the Metropolitan Police and experts in crowd safety. We will continue to monitor the arrangements and make improvements as necessary.
"We would like to thank AFC Wallingford for their efforts to make the day an enjoyable one for all and we look forward to welcoming the players, officials and supporters at the return fixture in March."
