TIVVY SIGN EXETER SKIPPER 30/12/2002
Dr Martens League Premier Division club Tiverton Town have completed the loan signing of Exeter City stalwart Chris Curran following the onset of a major defensive crisis at Ladysmead.
Tiverton boss Martyn Rogers - a long- time admirer of the City club skipper - moved quickly to fill the breach left by injured Steve Peters and suspended duo Steve Winter and Nathan Rudge.
Curran (pictured) will join Jason Rees, Chris Holloway, Jamie Mudge, Luke Vinnicombe and Richard Pears among a growing band of former Grecians at Ladysmead.
The 31-year-old central defender, who has made more than 400 league and cup appearances for Exeter, Torquay and Plymouth, was plunged straight into Rogers' squad for Saturday's trip to rock-bottom Ilkeston Town.
Curran will use his month at Ladysmead to complete his comeback from lengthy knee and hamstring problems. "I think Chris has a great attitude to the game," said Rogers.
"But he needs some games and he's quite happy to come and give us a good month. With Steve Peters and Nathan Rudge both out, I had to move quickly and it's nice to bring in someone who knows the club.
"And even though he's been out for a little while, I think he will do well for us. There are a lot of familiar faces here and I am sure he will enjoy it."
Meanwhile, another former Exeter defender, Marcus Gross, has returned to the Tiverton squad following a spell studying in America.
Gross signed for Tivvy after serving a scholarship with Exeter. He was released after one season as a professional. The 6’0” Barnstaple-born player made one Football League appearance for the Grecians last season.
