JEFFREY KEEN TO GET BACK INVOLVED 25/05/2012
While most managers are happy to put their feet up and have a rest for the summer, Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division club Banbury United's former boss Billy Jeffrey can’t wait for the new season to start.
Jeffrey (pictured) had to take a year out of the game to have much-needed surgery on both hips - the result of a long professional career at the likes of Oxford United and Northampton Town - but now the former Puritans boss is looking to get back involved in some capacity next season.
Jeffrey arrived at Spencer Stadium in March 2009 with Banbury heading for the drop in the old Zamaretto League. Although he couldn’t keep them out of the relegation zone, they were reprieved and retained their premier division status after Jeffrey managed to take them up to fourth from bottom.
Jeffrey enjoyed two more seasons at Banbury before having to resign at the end of the 2010-11 season.
“Towards the end of my last season at Banbury I could hardly walk, let alone take the coaching, because of the pain I was in,” said the popular Scot.
“I had no choice but to step down and put my health first. But I’ve had both hips done during the winter, I’m swimming, cycling and playing golf again, but now I want to get back into football.
“I went to watch a lot of games last season at different levels in Non-League football and now I feel ready to get back into management or coaching. I’ve missed the week-to-week involvement and feel I’ve still got a lot to give to a club.”
