FARMER THRILLED WITH NEW ACQUISITIONS
25/06/2012
Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division club Bedworth United have added two more players to their squad after netting all bar two of their major summer transfer targets.

The Greenbacks have signed left winger Tom Byrne from Hinckley United and Rugby Town striker Luke Keen with what could be their final moves before the season starts.

Manager Steve Farmer (pictured) said: “Tom and Luke are two more excellent additions. I’ve seen them both play before and was impressed by them.

“They are in their early 20s and they’ve really bought into what we are trying to achieve here. They are both ambitious and I think we can make them better players at Bedworth.

“Tom has good feet and is very quick, which is something we possibly lack. Luke was in the Tamworth team from a young age, I’ve heard good reports on him and he scored goals for Rugby last season.”

Farmer identified seven key transfer targets following promotion to the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division.

He admits he is thrilled to have signed five of them — goalkeeper Andy Kemp, midfielder Sam Belcher, striker David Kolodynski, Byrne and Keen.

The only players he missed out on were central defender Mark Albrighton and forward Danny Newton.

Albrighton chose to join Barwell from Nuneaton Town, while Newton signed for Nuneaton from Hinckley.

“We spoke to them and they would have been good additions, but I understand that you can’t sign every player you want. Overall I’m thrilled with the players we’ve got in.

“Is that the end of what we’ll do? I wouldn’t say yes for sure. We are always on the lookout for good players so if someone becomes available then we’ll look at it,” he said.
