GRAND GIVEN SOUTHPORT ARMBAND 28/06/2012
Southport have installed Simon Grand as their new club captain ahead of the new Blue Square Bet Premier season.
The defender (pictured) takes over from previous incumbent Alan Moogan, who has been promoted to a player/coach role. Full back James Smith will move up to vice-captain.
‘Port boss Liam Watson said: “It is something I have long had in mind for Alan, to take over as coach. It is something he has wanted to, and is looking forward to doing. I think it will be a good move for the club.
“As for Grandy, he has been superb since coming to the club last summer. He and James are our two most experienced players, in terms of league football, so it made sense to go with them.
“Simon conducts himself in a thoroughly professional manner always, and is a good communicator. Jay is a winner, through and through. Equally importantly, I have a good relationship with both of them, which of course helps matters.”
