COLLINS WARY OVER 'FAVOURITES' TAG 18/07/2012
Jamie Collins feels it is premature to bracket Forest Green Rovers among the favourites for promotion from the Blue Square Bet Premier.
A string of high-profile summer signings have seen the Nailsworth club's title odds plummet in recent weeks – and the strength and depth of Dave Hockaday's squad should certainly be evident in their pre-season games.
But Collins (pictured), who won the Blue Square Bet South crown with Newport County in 2010, expects Non-League's top division to be more competitive than ever next term.
The 27-year-old is also wary of reading too much into pre-season results, although he has been happy to be back on the pitch in 2-0 victories over Brimscombe and Thrupp and North Leigh after a punishing training schedule.
He said: "I don't think anyone enjoys the running too much in training but it's been good to meet the new lads and get to know them.
"Everyone looks sharp and at this early stage everything looks good – we've definitely strengthened the squad.
"But the same could be said of four or five other teams in our league, so it's going to be a tough league again this year.
"Luton are up there every year, Mansfield have signed a few players and Wrexham will do well again.
"Our form from Christmas onwards was very good, and now we've got more options up front to hopefully turn a few draws into wins and put us in the mix for the play-offs or even better."
