NEW CHAIRMAN AT THREE BRIDGES
02/08/2012
"It was time," explained Alan Bell of his decision to stand down as chairman of Ryman League Division One South club Three Bridges.

Bell was chairman of the Jubilee Field team since shortly after the clubhouse was destroyed in 1993, but is stepping aside to spend more time with his family and wife, Hazel.

Bell will take up the role of president, a position that has been vacant since the death of Jim Steele in 2003, while Paul Terry, who has been vice-chairman for 16 years, will take over as chairman.

"It is retiring more than standing down," Bell explained. "I felt this was a good time to go with the club having been accepted into the Ryman League.

"When I took over the club was in a dire state; the clubhouse had just burnt down, and we had to disband our youth teams.

"But in the last 20 years, through a lot of hard work by everyone, we have improved the club both on and off the field.

"I will still be involved in the club, though. I wasn't sure about taking up the role as president when it was first offered to me, but I decided it would be an honour."

And Bell believes it is the start of a new era at Bridges.

"Paul Terry has the chance to progress the club now," Bell said. "It is a new era in the Ryman League and we needed some fresh blood.

"We had the AGM at the weekend and we have new people on the board, younger guys.

"Paul Terry deserves a chance to be chairman and I know everyone will give him their support."
