O'CONNOR GOES 'HOME' TO HEDNESFORD
06/08/2012
Evo-Stik League Premier Division club Hednesford Town have confirmed the signing of ex-Dundee United striker Sean O'Connor.

His registration was completed on Saturday following a drawn out process to secure his documentation through FIFA.

O'Connor (pictured) turned out for Annan Athletic in the Scottish Third Division last season after successful stints at Queen of the South, Morton and Dundee United, the team who originally signed him from The Pitmen for 30,000 in 2000 as an 18-year-old with huge potential.

The striker, again impressive from the bench against Vauxhall Motors on Saturday, purveyed his happiness at re-signing for his boyhood Club: "It's good to be back, I originally spoke to Terry McMahon just looking to do some training, I wanted to get fit and go from there and fortunately Rob Smith has given me a great opportunity."

O'Connor's promising career has often been disrupted by serious knee problems but the player, who starred for Queen of the South in their run to the Scottish Cup Final against giants Glasgow Rangers in 2008, is confident he can manage his injury and form a key part of a Hednesford squad that will again be looking for promotion to the Blue Square Bet North.

"It's well known I have had problems with my knees but its manageable, it has settled down over the last year or two and I'm confident I can bring something to the team and hopefully help Hednesford get promoted."

Club Secretary Terry McMahon explained that O'Connor actually signed a one year contract two weeks ago but, due to the long winded process of transferring his registration through FIFA, the club have had to wait to confirm his capture.

"We had to go through FIFA to confirm his registration but the return of 'The Big Man' to Keys Park after a very impressive pre-season could be one of the most important signings for this season as he brings huge experience and different options to an already very capable group of forwards."
