SUCCESSFUL RETURN FOR SAFFRON WALDEN 13/08/2012
James Crane put the icing on the cake as Saffron Walden made a triumphant return to the Thurlow Nunn League at Catons Lane.
After a year away, Walden came back with a bang, proving too strong thanks to efforts from Brad Green, Alex Riches and Crane.
New signing Steve Joyce was unable to play having not been registered in time, but that problem was soon overcome as Green beat the goalkeeper with a composed side-footed finish.
Joint-managers Colin Wallington (pictured) and Nicky Smith urged their troops on in the second half and were rewarded when Riches headed home from a set-piece, with a Swaffham consolation followed by Crane’s strike.
"All in all it was very pleasing and we know there is still room for improvement," said Wallington.
